Betsy Murphy
Betsy Murphy has over 8 years' experience appraising antique oriental and European carpets and textiles. Ms. Murphy began her career at Christie's auction house in the Trusts and Estates department in 1997 where she worked for 3 years. She reported to the Chairman and the President of Christie's, analyzing over 1000 appraisals each year for the preparation of quarterly and income reports. Following her tenure in Trust and Estates Ms. Murphy moved to the Carpet Department where she remained for 7 years as an Assistant Vice President and senior specialist.

Ms. Murphy was responsible for having a strong familiarity with the international carpet market, appraising carpets and textiles for estate, insurance and charitable donation appraisals. Additional responsibilities included, overseeing catalogue production including photo styling, design, producing research, footnotes and editing. Additionally she advised clients with purchases and cultivated consignments for future business. Ms. Murphy worked on the highly important sale from the Estate of Doris Duke that brought record prices at auction.

Ms. Murphy currently works for The Nazmiyal Collection, a high-end retailer dealing in Decorative and antique carpets and textiles. She continues to advise clients and prepare insurance and charitable donation appraisals. Shortly after graduating from the University of Kansas, Ms. Murphy began her passion for this field by living in Istanbul, Turkey for one year and took accelerated courses in the Turkish language where she is still proficient.
