Betsy Thomas
Betsy Thomas is an independent art advisor and consultant based in New York with over 10 years of experience in the European Art sector. She founded Betsy Thomas Fine Art Advisory, LLC in 2008, a firm that offers advisory services to a wide range of private and corporate clients.

Betsy began her career at Christie’s in New York in 1996 and after completing the prestigious Graduate Trainee Program, joined the 19th Century European Paintings and Sculpture Department as Vice President and Associate Specialist, a role she held for seven years. Her extensive expertise spans all schools of 19th Century European Painting and Sculpture with a particular interest in French Academic and Belle Epoch painting as well as Italian 19th Century painting. She worked in a team to raise the visibility of the European Orientalist painters and her contributions to two high profile single owner sales in New York and London helped Christie’s gain overall market share in Orientalism. In addition to estimating paintings for auction, and developing new business, Betsy conducted major insurance, gift tax and estate appraisals. She also wrote and researched a successful lecture entitled “Collecting in the Gilded Age: Bringing European Art to America” which she delivered to collector groups throughout the country.

Betsy holds a B.A. from Pomona College and a M.A. degree in the History of Art from the Courtauld Institute of Art, London. She most recently contributed essays on Orientalist painting for a privately published book dedicated to a single owner collection of Orientalist art which is due out later this year.
