George Baker
George Baker studied Fine Art and Art History at Rutgers University and holds a Masters in Art History from The University of Reading, England. He has authored articles on the drawings of Henry Fuseli, including one that was published in Art on Paper Magazine. He has also done extensive research on Joseph Wright of Derby and contributed to the exhibition catalog for a show of the artist’s work at the Derby Art Museum in England.

Mr. Baker previously held positions at The Susan Teller Gallery and The Old Print Shop, both located in New York City. In addition, he worked as a Fine Art cataloger for The Donald and Patricia Oresman Reading Collection. Since then, George and his wife, Sandra, opened Hudson City Antiques in 2002 and continue to operate from their original shopfront in New York City's West Chelsea neighborhood. The contents of their shop have an emphasis on works on paper, period picture frames, and early electric lighting, a specialization that earned them a feature length article in the October 2007 issue of Martha Stewart Living. Hudson City Antiques has had several special exhibitions including “Decorations for the Arts and Crafts Home” and “Edna Lawrence (1898-1987): Works on Paper”.

George is an avid collector of American and English Arts and Crafts era furniture and decorative arts, and he is currently writing about the furniture makers of the A. H. Davenport Company of Boston.
