Giving Back to Global Graduates

One of the most rewarding ways I’ve been able to give back recently is by participating in the University of Manchester’s Global Graduates Program.

The program is designed to broaden British students’ horizons by connecting them with alumni around the world. Through these experiences, students gain confidence, develop professional skills, and discover career paths they may never have considered. Seeing that transformation firsthand is incredibly rewarding.

I had the pleasure of mentoring Grace Oliver and meeting her fellow students during their visit to New York City at Christie’s. While we explored how value is determined in the art world, our conversations quickly expanded beyond appraisals and auctions. We talked about building a career, embracing uncertainty, taking calculated risks, and remaining open to opportunities that may lead in unexpected directions.

Like many alumni, I participated hoping to share my own experiences and offer practical guidance. What I didn’t expect was how much I would gain in return. Grace and her classmates brought genuine curiosity, thoughtful questions, and an enthusiasm that was both refreshing and inspiring.

The Global Graduates Program is a powerful reminder of the value of mentorship. As alumni, we have the opportunity to help students see what’s possible, encourage them to pursue ambitious goals, and provide insights that can shape their future. In return, we’re reminded why we chose our own paths in the first place.

Supporting the next generation of graduates is one of the most meaningful investments we can make, and I’m grateful to have played a small part in their journey.
